Where to Go to Have a Great Time in Oceanside
If there’s one phrase that could easily sum up life in Oceanside, it’s “laid back.” Granted, people feel that way about most of California, but some cities live up to that name more than others. If you’re looking for as close to a perfectly mild, year round climate as possible, Oceanside has it. As you can imagine, many of the attractions in the area are outdoors because that’s where you’re going to want to be spending most of your time. Few places in the world can boast about their perfect weather. It’s no wonder that more people are looking for real estate in Oceanside. Owning a property so close to the beach and outdoor fun is the dream. Let’s take a look why Oceanside is a city that, once you visit, you’ll never want to leave.
Oceanside Beaches
You knew this would be at the top of the list. If you’re looking for white sand as far as the eye can see, this is the place to be. Oceanside is home to over 3 and a half miles of beautiful beaches. All you have to do once you arrive is decide what activity you would like to enjoy that day. Want to just kick back and relax? No problem. But there’s also plenty of surfing, boogie boarding, and volleyball to try. Prefer to lounge and take it slow? Oceanside beaches have great surf fishing so make sure to bring your equipment. Get used to spending many more days enjoying the beach!
Oceanside Harbor
When you’re done with the sand, head on over to Oceanside Harbor for some local fare to enjoy. Not only are there many boats to admire (and even dock your own!) but there’s plenty to take in as you walk around. Looking for something delicious to eat after a long day catching rays? Oceanside Harbor is home to many of the fine restaurants in the area. If you’ve brought your own food, take advantage of the plentiful picnic tables. Once you’re done eating, there are many shops to check out. Be sure to also stop by the lighthouse to really enjoy the local atmosphere. If you’re in town during the month of September, also be sure to look into Oceanside Harbor Days. The last weekend of the month is an exhibition of what Oceanside locals have to offer including food, arts and crafts, family activities, and more. It’s always a good time.
Thrill Seeking
Do you thrive on the feeling of adrenaline pumping through your body? If so, Oceanside provides more than just laid back relaxation. For those of you who like to live the life of a daredevil, Oceanside is the home to the only coastal skydiving experience in Southern California. That’s right. You can’t experience this kind of skydiving anywhere else in the region. If you’re a competitive athlete, get ready, because the Ironman 70.3 is calling your name. Competitors from all across the nation come to Oceanside to test themselves on this challenging course of running, biking, and swimming. The area has been home to this elite competition since the early 1970s.
Museums and Parks
If you’re looking to experience more of the local culture, there is a variety of spots to visit so you can learn more about Oceanside. Heritage Park Village & Museum is like a trip back in time when everyone spent their days wandering down Main Street. Many of Oceanside’s historic buildings still stand here, including the first General Store, a blacksmith shop, stable, doctor’s office, newspaper offices, and even an old time jail. The California Surf Museum is another place you should check out if you’re in any way a fan of the sport. Despite being considered the historical home of surfing, little was done to preserve the heritage until the museum was established. Here you can view artifacts of the scene, including surfboards used by some of the greats. The museum’s collection is always being updated with memorabilia as it seeks to become the destination for surfing enthusiasts. Of course, there is also plenty of art to check out in Oceanside, as well. The Oceanside Museum of Art is home to contemporary art produced by local artists as well as artists from around the world. If you want a full, cultural experience, be sure to check it out.
Oceanside has something for everyone. Whether it’s surfing, good eats, history, or athletic competition, you’ll find an activity to suit your lifestyle. The spots highlighted here are just the beginning. There is always something new to experience. Once you spend some time in the city, be sure to research the homes that are available in the area. If you’re looking for a new place to put down roots, Oceanside is it. You’ll never want to give up that beach view.
