When it comes to wanting to put down roots, few states are as attractive as California. You’ve got it all: great weather, beaches, a diverse economy, and so much more. California also has the benefit of being huge, which means depending on the lifestyle you’re looking to lead there is a place somewhere for you. Take, for example, people looking for homes in North County. North County is comprised of some of the most desirable cities in the Greater San Diego area. In fact, it’s the most populous region outside of the city of San Diego itself.

North County makes a great place to call home for people at every stage of their careers, but young professionals may be the most interested in what the area has to offer. San Marcos

San Marcos offers the feel of a small city while also being laid back enough to still feel like a town. Just aesthetically speaking, having a view of the beautiful Lake San Marcos could be enough to attract prospective home buyers who aren’t so into the beach, but want nature and a body of water nearby. If you have children in your family, the San Marcos Unified School District is one of the largest school districts in the county with charter high schools and independent study high schools as options. There are some great spots for golfing as well, including St. Mark Golf Club and Twin Oaks Golf Course. Because you’re in California, there are plenty of wineries and breweries to check out. A wine tour is always a great way to spend the day. Carlsbad

San Marcos is a gorgeous inland city, but if it’s the beach you love, Carlsbad is the place for you. “The Village by the Sea” is well known as a tourist destination. While tourism certainly keeps the economy humming along, it’s also a great place to call home. In fact, the tech boom isn’t just relegated to Silicon Valley. Google named Carlsbad the digital capital of California several years back. Twelve of the most successful companies in the region call Carlsbad home. If you work in the information and communication technology, environmental sciences, or action sports industries, Carlsbad is the place for professional growth. With new businesses always coming up, it’s like getting in on the ground floor. Of course, you’re going to want to unwind as well. It’s not all about work.  There are over seven miles of beaches to enjoy during the nearly year-round perfect weather. When you’re not feeling the beach, there’s plenty of golf to take in, too. Carlsbad is home to The Crossings golf course which was rated one of the top ten new courses by GOLF Magazine.

Oceanside

Oceanside is the other major coastal city in North County that offers fantastic properties located within walking distance of the beach. Similar to Carlsbad, it is home to companies that are tech based in nature, though the healthcare industry also has strong representation. Tri-City Medical Center is one of the biggest employers in the city. Genentech, a biotechnology company, is another large employer in the area. If you’re interested in the school system, here’s an interesting tidbit for you: Oceanside’s school district offers music programs throughout grades 4-12. In a time where the creative arts seem to be disappearing from our schools, this is a huge opportunity for Oceanside’s students to expand their minds and foster their talents.
